Defining an ideal Freight Hub
The Busselton Airport ideal cargo-hub depends on the geography, the customers and the needs of the region to create a new cargo handling facility that can be integrated to the economical frame-work of the region and includes areas and specialist capabilities designed for the needs of the region’s particularities – and specifically seafood, chilled meat products, fresh milk, FFVs and flowers, and the particularly rich primary products of the South West region of Western Australia.

Ideal logistical
Modelling
It is awe-important to really define the ideal freight-hub. Unlike other global large hubs, the project is more focused as a stand-alone provider with a real focus on the South West business community. A lot can be done with the infrastructure and software, but South West Air Cargo is a tailor-made venture with private and public stake-holders engaged with and willing to work with the region. The freight-hub is attracting professionals who want to work and develop this industry at regional level as an essential key to its success.

Developing an ideal Supply Chain
There are some ideal elements that need to be considered, whether there is an actual ‘masterplan’ that is in place or not, but by creating the list of all we need to score against, and then map that to a list of what our current exporters would be looking for – and ideally including a growth in terms of customer demand – the business concept creates a matrix of key criteria for the Busselton Airport cargo hub: connectivity, data-driven, technology, modularity so that it can be more flexible and cost effective than a complex supply chain via Perth airport
